Our main office is located in historic Hudson, New York, in Columbia County – within the Hudson River Valley. Staff Civil Engineer for Solar Industry Work

  • Full Time Position

Position Description

The successful engineering candidate will join our Civil/Environmental Engineering department and help design small, medium and utility scale solar energy projects.

The new employee will work directly with the department Project Manager and our solar energy team in completing a wide variety of projects for the solar energy market including feasibility analyses, site development design, stormwater management analysis and design, environmental permitting and environmental studies. The Project Manager will provide the training and instruction necessary for a new candidate’s growth and success.

The position will offer the opportunity for individual contribution and team participation. The successful candidate will also be able and willing to take on responsibility for project success. The position will include assignments that increase the depth and breadth of staff members’ skills-set due to the diverse nature of our projects. The position will require both office and field work. Typical assignments may include site inspections and assessments, project strategizing and problem solving, engineering calculations and analysis, drawing development using Autocad and Civil 3D, project correspondence including letter and report writing and construction management.

The new employee will work with the Civil/Environmental Team in completing a variety of projects including site development, water and wastewater planning and design, stormwater management, environmental permitting and environmental analysis. Survey Technician

Position Description

We are looking for a survey technician with GPS skills to join the growing survey team in our Hudson, Columbia County office. Crawford & Associates’ Land Surveying Division specializes in boundary and topographic surveys, subdivisions, ALTA surveys, aerial ground control and construction layout.

The Survey Technician position requires a combination of field work in various weather and site conditions and office work including deed research and analysis, processing of raw field data, survey calculations and mapping. The ideal candidate will have had exposure, either through work related experience or classroom instruction to GPS surveying, traditional surveying methods, boundary analysis and cad drafting. An Associates’ degree in survey technology is preferred but not required. The ideal candidate will also be team oriented; have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record. Crawford & Associates would welcome and support anyone working towards their LS license.

Senior Land Surveyor

Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the position are all those associated with assisting with planning, organizing, executing, and supervising land surveying services. Specifically, those responsibilities include:

  • Managing daily operations of field crews and office personnel;

  • Overseeing technical quality

  • Staff training and mentorship

  • Client management

  • Proposal preparation

  • Negotiation of scope and fee

Qualifications Needed

  • Bachelors or Associates Degree required.

  • An LS or ability to get one within 2 years

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in positions of responsibility on survey projects

  • Working knowledge of state of the art land surveying equipment and software

  • Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills.

  • Must be able to produce accurate work product with great attention to detail.

  • Must possess a valid New York State Land Surveying license.

GIS/AutoCad Technician

Position Description

The GIS/AutoCad Technician will join our engineering team in site analysis and engineering design for a wide variety of projects including many in the solar energy field. The ideal candidate will be fluent in both GIS and AutoCad and have the ability to create, manage and analyze spatial datasets and create engineering drawings including site plans. The right individual will also be able to analyze data and create cartographic products to convey project information to special audiences including regulatory agencies and the general public. The position offers the opportunity for increasing levels of responsibility in project execution.

Qualifications

Proficiency in GIS and Autocad
Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree
Familiarity with the civil engineering/construction industry a plus

Civil/Structural Engineer

  • Full Time Position

  • Entry Level or 1 – 2 Years of experience with BS or Masters Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering

  • Proficiency in Autocad

  • Energetic motivated individuals

  • Strong knowledge of or interest in Building Design / Construction: Steel, Wood and Concrete Design Standards

  • Good communication skills

  • Experience with Visual Analysis preferred

  • Land survey experience a plus (total station, GPS, drone, etc)

Position Description

The successful engineering candidate will join our structural / civil engineering department. The new employees will work directly with the Structural Team in completing a variety of projects. Experienced personnel will provide the training and instruction necessary for a new candidate’s growth and success.

Work will involve projects that range from high end residential homes, commercial, institutional and industrial building design, existing building assessment with renovation design, historic building assessment and foundation design, plus others.

Position will require both office and field work and may include engineering assignments not specific to structural engineering. Typical assignments may include site inspections, engineering calculations and analysis, drawing development, project correspondence including letter and report writing and construction management.

Entry-level staff at C&A are given the opportunity to develop a solid and varied skill set perfectly suited to support those with the goal of becoming a Professional Engineer (PE). Staff additionally progress in terms of responsibility from task ownership to project ownership including interacting with clients and regulatory agencies based on skill development, communication skill and growth in professional maturity.

Solar Design Engineer

Position Qualifications

  • Entry Level or 1 – 2 Years of experience with BS Degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on power

  • Strong interest in the solar energy field and motivation for self-learning

  • Good communication skills

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and juggle multiple tasks

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD (a plus but not required)

  • Ability to work both independently and cooperatively with others

  • Desire to grow technically and professionally and continually expand beyond one’s zone of comfort

  • Willingness to relocate

Position Description

The successful engineering candidate will join our Civil/Electrical Engineering department to support low to medium voltage electrical design of community and utility scale solar energy systems. The new employee will work directly with civil and electrical engineers in laying out solar arrays, specifying electrical equipment and conducting cost-benefit analyses for a variety of solar developer clients. Our solar projects are generally located on greenfields and brownfields throughout the United States. Our work typically supports developers in the site selection, design, permitting and construction of solar energy systems. Specific tasks may include calculating energy yields using PVSyst; creation of engineering drawings and single line diagrams of system designs using AutoCAD; and review of RFIs during construction.

Experienced personnel will provide the training, instruction and support necessary for a new team member’s growth and success.

The position will allow for the right individual to gain the experience and skills to make a significant contribution to the transition to the renewable energy future.
