Our main office is located in historic Hudson, New York, in Columbia County – within the Hudson River Valley. Senior Land Surveyor – Office Position

Position Description

The surveying department of Crawford and Associates Engineering and Land Surveying is extremely busy and is primarily focused on boundary, topographic, subdivision and construction surveying. We have an immediate need for a senior land surveyor to work with a Licensed Surveyor in the preparation of surveys and to meet project objectives. This position would be primarily an office position with very minimal fieldwork required.

Responsibilities would include:

  • Analysis of and processing of data produced by field crews towards the goal of producing accurate and correct survey maps. The ideal candidate will possess the ingenuity to work out complex surveying problems and make decisions using the rules of construction for land surveys.

  • Overseeing the technical quality of office work done by others. (The party chiefs/field crew managers will typically work up some of the simpler tasks in the office but the senior land surveyor would work with them to insure accuracy of their work).

  • Training of new staff and mentorship.

  • Preparation of full and complete subdivision applications.

  • Attendance at planning board meetings.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years working in the surveying field including performing both field and office work.

  • Very knowledgeable in surveying skills, including map drafting and deed research.

  • A very strict attention to minor detail

  • Excellent problem solving skills.

  • The patience to work with field and office staff.

  • The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Working knowledge of state of the art surveying equipment

The compensation includes pay in the range of $24/hr to $39/hr and excellent benefits including 401K with company match, high quality fully-paid health insurance, paid vacation and PTO (paid time off), tuition reimbursement, paid holidays, potential for bonuses, life insurance and an excellent working environment in a modern office setting.

Early Career Civil Site Engineer Position

Position Description

For this position we are seeking an early career civil engineer with an interest or openness to site design. The successful engineering candidate will join one of our Engineering Design Teams and provide civil engineering expertise to a variety of civil/site engineering projects including residential and commercial land development projects, renewable energy projects, municipal projects including infrastructure assessment, design and construction administration, and a variety of other project types. We employ a collaborative model that ensures seamless integration across disciplines and enables us to manage complex, multi-phase projects efficiently. Our collaborative model also provides staff members exposure to and potential involvement in the full life span of our projects; from initial inception, through concept development, initial design, permitting and construction. New staff will work directly with small teams of skilled and experienced engineers who will support and assist new staff with the completion of assignments. Assignments will largely consist of office work with some fieldwork. New staff will be trained, mentored and supported directly by senior staff and their Group Project Manager will ensure they are given a diversity of assignments to increase the depth and breadth of their skills set.

The opportunity to develop a solid and varied skill set through the diversity of project assignments is perfectly suited to support those with the goal of becoming a Professional Engineer (PE). Staff additionally progress in terms of responsibility from task ownership to project ownership including interacting with clients and regulatory agencies based on skill development, communication skills and growth in professional maturity. The position will allow for the right individuals to gain the experience and skills to make significant contributions on engaging projects as well as the opportunity to develop quickly into strong, confident engineers.

What We Need From You

  • Have a BS or MS in Civil Engineering and 0-5 years experience.

  • Willingness to learn AutoCAD and Civil 3D.

  • Diligence and attention to detail.

  • Willingness to ask questions for clarification and understanding.

  • Ability to effectively collaborate with team members and also focus on individual contribution.
